Hello everyone!
Long time since I last rambled in this journal...!
So, today's babbling will be about... inspiration. One of the questions I get most often is "where do you get your inspiration from?". And I don't think I'm special here, because I know many other artists get this one a hell of a lot too.
Well, the secret is finally out, and here it is: I've got a special breathing technique.
Ok, I'm just kidding here (bear with me, I haven't had a chance to pull an April's fool trick to anyone this year! D: ).
Point is, it's funny that so many people seem to think there's a "way" to get inspiration, or a "trick" to it. I don't know, where do
you get your inspiration from?
As far as I'm concerned... there's nothing magical about inspiration. Good ideas are like the rest: work, work, work and work! Sure, there
are some things that put me in the right mood for drawing, like music, coming back from an inspirational show, or seeing something that stirred an idea. But most of the time ideas just fall on you from the blue, I think...?
And then,
knowing what to you with it is mostly work and practice to me, really. I've taken a huge step into making more interesting artworks from the day I've stopped getting to drawing as soon as I had an idea, an "inspiration". It might sound odd, but it's true. It's probably a matter of personality, but my work is a lot better when I work on ideas I've had in the corner of my head for a while... it gives them some time to mature and grow, and it gives me more time to get more ideas, and think about the composition, and generally turn an "inspiration" into something really worth it. If I start drawing my ideas straight away, you can usually tell that I've not given them enough thought.
I don't know if I'm making much sense here, but my point is: conceiving a picture is work as well. Good ideas require work and thinking, and great concepts coming to your mind fully formed are rare in my experience (just talking for myself here, though!!). So now you know the secret: practice makes perfect!

And some lovely features for you, show these awesome artists some love!
