+ Buzznet.com - serious theft, beware. +

Currently working on : Commissions

I guess some of you are already aware of this blogging website, BUZZNET.COM.

I found out today that some of their users have some of my works uploaded to their galleries. No big deal, I immediately think. Most of them didn't give credit, so I was going to ask them to credit me.... when I noticed something.

[Apart from the fact that many of the users take pictures repeatedly from the same artists, at different times, and claim every time not to know the artist's name (even though it's included in the file name or watermark), or blur the pictures as to make the copyright information unreadable...]

Next to every image uploaded by their users, Buzznet.com applies by default a sign that notifies that the picture is under a Common Creative Licence - Paternity 0.1.
For those of you who are not familiar with Common Creative Licences, it means that Buzznet.com says that these works are free to be modified or be used for commercial uses, as long as the original author is credited.

Which of course most of use don't allow.
Please note that I read their whole Terms of Use and tried to submit a picture myself - nowhere I could find any notification that I could be loosing some of my rights over the picture by uploading it to Buzznet.com.

Of course, supposedly users should upload their own works - but everyone who owns this type of website knows it's not gonna happen. I was going to report the pictures, then, and when reading the Terms of Use, I had another "pleasant" surprise: in their Terms of Use, Buzznet.com notifies that they have the right but no obligation to remove materials uploaded by their users which are copyright infringements.
And it gets even better! They also mention that uploading a picture to Buzznet.com irrevocably waives any and all “moral rights” in such materials, including the rights of paternity and integrity, meaning that they can use and modify works, even stolen ones, that may have been uploaded to their servers without even crediting.

 Now I guess you guys aren't liking Buzznet.com that much anymore.

I suggest you have a look around Buzznet to see whether you can find your own work somewhere.
Personally it sincerely infuriates me to see that they are not warning their users anywhere that by uploading artworks, they are by default placing the picture under a Creative Common License that allows commercial use. As though the managers of Buzznet.com didn't know that their users are going to upload pictures they have no rights upon... :/

No fate but what we make.
What's infuriating here is that Buzznet.com doesn't even warn their users that the pictures they upload are put "by default" as free of rights. You really have to look for it in your setting section t change it, and I doubt many users do it, especially when it's not their work. :/

All I can say is wow. I had no idea...

Thanks for the warning.
:/ I must say I agree. Whoever thought it might be a good idea to put all works as "free for use" by default was a complete jackass.
